SimulationX at Mercedes Benz Commercial Vehicles
Within the development of commercial vehicles the dimensioning of the pneumatic system is of great importance. Many different legal and customer-driven requirements have to be fulfilled. The behavior of the equipment is defined by a wide range of factors which are affected by the available design space. Since changes both in the series-vehicle and a prototype are difficult and costly to realize the virtual product design plays an important role to make design decisions at an early development stage.
For the design of pneumatic brake systems Daimler decided to work with SimulationX. The software offers a multitude of libraries, amongst others a substantial one for pneumatic systems which is easily extendable. In addition to ready-to-use standard models, the team created a wide range of user-specific component models of conventional and electrical braking systems.
With the aim to predict the behavior of pneumatic systems, especially brake systems, before building up a prototype Daimler’s engineering team realized the vision of completely developing their products in virtual reality.
