Multi-domain System Simulation and Modeling

SimulationX is a standard software for valuation of the interaction of all components of technical systems. It is the universal CAE tool for modeling, simulation and analyzing of physical effects – with ready-to-use model libraries for 1D mechanics, 3D multibody systems, power transmissionhydraulics, pneumatics, thermodynamicselectrics, electrical drives, magnetics as well as controls – postprocessing included.

SimulationX is the Driving Force in System Simulation. The model libraries including validated model components are being developed in close cooperation with numerous industrial partners and research institutes. The program with its customer-oriented modules and editions, numerous functionalities and interfaces fulfils the requirements for users’ application tasks. The tool is unique in terms of library integration, modeling comfort and flexibility. It has been developed as a CAE application with an up-to-date user front-end.

The simulation of the relation between technology and function is a tool for a funded prognosis of the process. Decisions are no longer made for time and financial reasons by “trial and error”-methods, but based on excellently prognosticated simulation results. With SimulationX traditional development methods hit the wall of efficiency and feasibility. System-spanning concepts, increasing complexity and various interactions between physical subsystems require an integrated consideration of the complete system of drivetrain, process and machine. SimulationX gives a competitive edge (and therewith a competitive advantage) to the engineers and developers in each industry branch  for mastering more sophisticated development tasks.

Developing simulation models for technical components and systems implies the inclusion of the different physical effects, ranging from mechanics to hydraulics, thermics, pneumatics, magnetics, or even electronics, but also the consideration of the involved controls.

SimulationX is used as a system simulator by the practical engineer in all industrial branches. The general concept is to provide one homogeneous platform for modeling and simulation of mechatronic systems without any need for co-simulation, mathematically described inputs or code export/import.

SimulationX made an important step towards universal design support. Apart from using the traditional elements from 1D mechanics, control systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics, you can now create your models exploiting about 200 new elements from electrical engineering, electronics, thermics, thermodynamics, and 3D mechanics.

The extremely powerful COM Interface opens extensive possibilities for the integration of ITI SimulationX into the design process. Using the programming language of your choice (Visual Basic, C, Java) you create your own customized scripts for the data exchange with other tools, for pre and post processing, or for software coupling. Some starting examples are provided on the installation CD.

Based on a general coupling module you create co-simulation interfaces to other tools in a comprehensible and concise manner. Via an STL interface you import your geometries from all popular CAD tools.

Your advantage: object-oriented physical modeling. The general balance equations for, e.g., forces, electrical currents, magnetic flux, and mass flows are already implemented in SimulationX. You only have to select the required type of connection - the program ensures the matching of the corresponding connectors.

You save time: Create new model objects by extending existing objects (object-oriented inheritance concepts) or by assembling submodels into reusable compounds.

You can create automatically: As a matter of course you can also design completely new elements using the integrated object-oriented modeling language. And, you do not have to use a text editor for this: The SimulationX Type Designer systematically guides you through all required design steps. The symbols and connectors, as well as parameter dialogs, are created fully automatically.

You have access to: objects, parameters, and variables on all modeling levels. This is ensured by the clearly structured name space concept of SimulationX, which supports the implementation of arbitrarily deep model hierarchies.

SimulationX offers:

  • several analysis possibilities, combined in a consolidated environment and all applicable to one and the same model
  • simulation in the time domain using an optimized DAE solver for problems with indices greater than 1 and sparse matrix solution methods
  • equilibrium computation (static or stationary), computation of eigenfrequencies and modes
  • discrete variables and zero functions for reliable treatment of discontinuities

You use the optimization module for the estimation of optimum parameters (parameter identification, inverse simulation), which closely interacts with ITI SimulationX. Via drag and drop the full comfort of SimulationX is provided for specifying an optimization task. You can combine several optimization criteria and can independently weight each one.
