ITI involved in racing
For many years, ITI has provided the student association Elbflorace from the Dresden University of Technology (TUD) with support for the engineering competition Formula Student (FSAE). After three cars with combustion engines, the team of over 70 students from the TUD with various academic backgrounds turned to the Formula Student Eletric (FSE) in 2010.
General Manager Jens Schindler: “Highly educated young engineers are the driving force for success and growth, especially for Dresden as a center of technology. Hence, it is vital to listen to them and promote their education. We support Team Elbflorace to apply their knowledge and their practical skills and experience technology first-hand.”
During the development of their electric single seat racing car, the future engineers draw upon SimulationX and the expertise of ITI’s engineering team. In order to evaluate the impact of individual components on the vehicle’s behavior, a comprehensive consideration through system simulation is imperative.
„For a time-efficient development of a Formula Student racing car the simulation becomes increasingly important. Thus, it is a standard tool in the development process. To evaluate the effects of the individual components in relation to the overall vehicle, a holistic view of the vehicle simulation is essential. The simulation of the powertrain even allowed us to test the enormous controller system virtually prior to the first driveout of the car,” said Thomas Tüschen, Project Manager 2010/2011 of the Elbflorace Team, at the 15th ITI Symposium 2012.
